This Brussels commune concentrates art schools and artists' studios, which explains the density of its painted walls. Its annual street art festival brings in painters from around the world and leaves new pieces on facades with every edition, so the route changes from one year to the next.
Rue de la Chapelle is its heart: unlike the rest of the capital, where comic strip murals dominate, here it is contemporary muralism that holds sway, across whole gable ends and in a range of styles that makes the street a genuine open-air museum.
