This Walloon commune in the Geer valley, near the Dutch border, carries a mural depicting the Tramp and the Kid, after Charlie Chaplin's 1921 film.

Cinematic quotation is a common register in mural commissioning, and silent film lends itself particularly well: its black and white images, its highly recognisable silhouettes and its absence of dialogue make it a repertoire immediately legible to everyone, with no language barrier. In a border commune where several languages are spoken, that argument counts.

Belgium has a dense scene, carried by Brussels and its official trail, but also by the rural communes of Wallonia, where festivals multiplied from the 2010s onwards. The country has the particularity of mixing comics, cinema and contemporary mural painting within those programmes.
