Map of street art in Dhaka (Bangladesh)

Dhaka is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh, one of the most densely populated megacities in the world, crossed by the arms of the Ganges and Brahmaputra delta. The country's political, economic, and cultural center, it gathers more than twenty million people in its metropolitan area.

Street art remained marginal here for a long time, until the summer of 2024, when the July student revolution turned the city's walls into a vast open book. Hundreds of frescoes appeared at Shahbag, on the Dhaka University campus, and along the metro pillars, paying tribute to killed protesters — Abu Sayed, Mir Mugdho — and denouncing the regime in place.

This uprising muralism gave rise to a new Bangladeshi visual language blending Bengali slogans, portraits of martyrs, and revolutionary symbols. Named artists such as Morshed Mishu coordinated student collectives, making Dhaka one of the most striking protest street art scenes of the 2020s.
