Where to find street art in Perth (Australia)

Perth, capital of Western Australia, is a fully-fledged street art city whose scene has developed primarily in the Northbridge and Fremantle neighbourhoods. The CBD's laneways — Nick's Lane, Prince Lane, Wolf Lane — form a network of urban galleries regularly refreshed with new works, while permanent pieces punctuate the city and its surroundings.

Perth was a pioneer in Australia in integrating mural art into cultural policy. Initiatives such as Streets of Perth and the City of Vincent commissioned works from Australian and international artists to enliven neighbourhoods while embedding historical narratives in public space. Guido Van Helten's mural in West Perth exemplifies this approach by making visible the forgotten history of the Afghan cameleers.

Fremantle, the historic port 20 km south of Perth, has its own street art scene with the Fremantle Street Art Trail, which brings together local artists and international visitors. Perth is also home to works from the PUBLIC Silo Trail programme, which has turned grain silos across the state into giant canvases, placing Western Australia firmly on the world map of mural art.
