A newborn's face fills the centre of the panel, eyes wide open, lying in a swirl of blue, pink, orange and yellow laid down in broad sweeps of spray paint. A black branch crosses the left side carrying a white and orange blossom; on the right a red hibiscus bursts against the cheek. Sêma Lao painted her own daughter here, six weeks old, held in her father's hands, and the child was there at the opening. This is the thirteenth mural of Le M.U.R de Bourges, in April 2019, on the panel at the entrance of the former Maison de la Culture on place André Malraux. Our photograph shows it mid-work, the artist up a stepladder in a yellow raincoat with spray cans lined up at the foot of the wall: the right half is painted, the left is still waiting. Like every mural on this wall, it was covered by the next one two months later.
