On a black-painted wall on Boulevard du Général-Jean-Simon in Paris's 13th arrondissement, Akelo (Génia Akoulova) has placed one of her aviatrixes: a calm child's face bundled in a brightly striped hood, winged flying goggles pushed up on the forehead. Her body opens out into a vast collar of white lace, painted stitch by stitch, which wraps around a polar bear lying beside her. The piece carries the themes that run through the Franco-Russian artist's work, childhood, flight and the bond between people and nature, in a range of whites and greys broken only by the hood. The signature @akelo.art is painted beneath the bear.
