Against a vivid orange ground, convulsive figures tangle around the slogan "CRACK IS WACK". Keith Haring painted it without permission in 1986 on the wall of a handball court alongside Harlem River Drive, after his assistant became addicted to crack. New York City, hostile at first, ended up protecting it and naming the playground after it.
