An Wei was born in Madrid in 1990 into a traditional Chinese family. He spent his childhood drawing in his parents' restaurant, until a local painter noticed his talent and taught him the basics of classical painting. His line, elegant and restrained, serves portrait and landscape alike.

An Wei painted three framed panels on a pale wall, linked by a thin climbing stem: a bust, a pebble and a landscape. The work commemorates Angelo Vassallo, the fisherman mayor of Pollica, a town twinned with Aielli, murdered by the Camorra in 2010.
