Born on 16 July 1977 in Boudry, canton of Neuchâtel, Thoma Vuille began painting murals with acrylics at fifteen, inspired by his grandfather, a building painter. After a vocational diploma in civil engineering, he enrolled at the Institut d'arts visuels in Orléans, studying from 1995 to 2001. Thoma Vuille's yellow cats with their wide toothy grins run across the orange façade of the bar, ears pointed and eyes half closed, one holding a coffee cup and a milk carton, another brandishing a hand-lettered opening hours sign. Red hearts are scattered between the figures on a backdrop of painted mock buildings, and black tags have since been layered over them.
