Rakaposhii is a Cologne artist and a fixture of the Ehrenfeld district, whose alias is borrowed from a peak in the Karakoram range in Pakistan. His work draws on spiritual, meditative imagery — reclining Buddhas, trees of life, mystical symbols drawn in white line on dark grounds — and also ventures into mural calligraphy, with large supple lettering in pastel tones. An entire gable treated as layered calligraphy: letters and vertical bands stack up in powder pink, grey, ochre, mint, burgundy and white, some drawn with a broad brush, others reduced to serifs. A large blue S in a single fast gesture fills the right of the wall, and the signature Rako, dated 2014, runs vertically down the drainpipe.
