A 220 m² trompe-l'oeil fresco painted in 1994 by Denis and Nathalie Carenco on the gable of the La Tourette building, facing the Major cathedral. Composed around the building's real windows, the scene draws on the Italian Renaissance and on a ceiling Giambattista Tiepolo painted in 1764 at the Royal Palace of Madrid: it depicts the landing at Marseille's Old Port of a tall ship back from the New World, with its helmeted conquistadors, its cargo of plundered goods and the Native Americans brought back from the Americas among feather headdresses and draped fabrics. The dome of the Vieille-Charité and the pale stones of the Major slip into the background, and the district's name is painted along the bottom of the composition.
