Caroline Sury

Caroline Sury, born in 1964 in Laval, is a French comics author, painter, illustrator and publisher based in Marseille. A graduate of the Bordeaux school of fine arts in 1989, she co-founded and co-directed the Marseille publishing house Le Dernier Cri from 1993 to 2009 with Pakito Bolino, a landmark of screen printing and underground publishing. A metal shutter and the wall around it saturated with dozens of small rounded characters wearing caps, in purple, green, pink, orange and turquoise, each reduced to two dot eyes and a mouth. Their tight stacking turns the storefront into a compact crowd that spills off the shutter onto the stone on either side, down to the pavement. The mural covers the facade of Caroline Sury's studio on Rue Saint-Savournin, and three names are painted on the lintel, each preceded by an arrow: Owen, Blond and Sury.
