Mitacq, real name Michel Tacq (Brussels, 1927 - Waterloo, 1994), was a Belgian cartoonist trained under Jijé. A former scout, in 1954 he created La Patrouille des Castors for Spirou magazine, a realist adventure series about five scouts, written for twenty years by Jean-Michel Charlier. Two scouts in shorts climb a turquoise ladder painted the full height of a pale green gable, one braced at the bottom to hold it steady, the other at the top with his head down and a worried look. The thick black line and pale flat colours echo the realist style of the series, and the painting plays with the real relief of the wall by working boxes and cables into the scene.
