MOTS is the duo of urban artists from Porto, Portugal and Opole, Poland, created by Diogo Ruas, painter and illustrator, and Jagoda Cierniak, photographer and project coordinator. Their collaboration fused their individual approaches characterized by Diogo’s experience as an urban artist and Jagoda’s engagement in social grassroots initiatives and art projects.

Painted in 2021 by the duo MOTS, Portuguese artist Diogo Ruas and Polish artist Jagoda Cierniak, for MURO, the Lisbon urban art festival. Two faces fill the wall, drawn in red line over flat ochre: on the left a head with hair tied up in a bun and glasses pushed onto the forehead; on the right an older man whose face is carved with wrinkles. Both are cut off by the edges of the panel and left unfilled, letting the grey and yellow geometric setting painted underneath show through. The title takes the Portuguese phrase "cara metade", one's other half in a couple, literally built from the words for "face" and "half": both heads are indeed painted as truncated portraits.
