Fresco unveiled on June 21, 2017 in the alley adjacent to Ben's Chili Bowl, at the corner of Ben Ali Way and U Street. The work brings together sixteen portraits of African American icons — Harriet Tubman carrying a torch at the top, Barack and Michelle Obama, Prince, Muhammad Ali, Chuck Brown, Roberta Flack, Dave Chappelle, Dick Gregory — selected through a public vote that gathered 30,000 ballots. A star-spangled banner runs through the composition.
