Biography
Strøk is the artistic name of Anders Gjennestad, a Norwegian stencil artist born in 1980 in Arendal and based between Oslo and Berlin. Self-taught, he adopted the alias in 2001 to sign his street interventions, setting them apart from the studio work he makes under his given name.
His signature: monochrome figures seen from above that seem to climb, leap or float along façades, trailed by long cast shadows. By working with the wall's real features, he conjures a weightless illusion in which gravity appears suspended.
Each stencil, hand-cut in multiple layers from his own photographs, achieves an almost photographic depth in a sober palette of greys, blacks and whites. His walls have appeared across Europe, from festivals such as Nuart to exhibition spaces.
