Biography
Saber, born Ryan Weston Shook in Glendale, California, in 1976, is an American graffiti writer and artist and a leading figure of the Los Angeles scene. A member of the legendary MSK and AWR crews, he rose to international fame in 1997 with a piece painted on the concrete bank of the Los Angeles River - the largest graffiti work ever made, roughly the size of a football field, completed over 35 nights and so vast it could be spotted from satellites. It stayed in place for twelve years. Known for his dense wildstyle lettering and intricate color fades, Saber moved into fine art in the early 2000s, showing in galleries and museums including MOCA's landmark 2011 exhibition "Art in the Streets". That same year he staged a self-funded skywriting protest above the city against its mural moratorium.
