Kim Sielbeck

Biography

Kim Sielbeck is an American illustrator and muralist born in Alaska, from a Coast Guard family that moved frequently during her childhood. She trained in illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she worked as a freelance illustrator from 2006 to 2017 for major brands and publications — including an opening illustration for TIME Magazine's special edition "The Power of Joy."

Her practice is distinguished by colorful, optimistic, and often animal-themed iconography inspired by the endemic flora and fauna of the Hawaiian Islands. In 2017, she moved to Hawaii where she developed her mural work, before participating in the 2021 Doha Walls Festival in Qatar (Al Sadd metro station).

Her "Blue Tiger" mural in Honolulu's Kaka'ako district, commissioned as part of the Kamehameha Schools public art program for Pow! Wow! Hawaii, depicts a blue tiger moving through lush tropical vegetation. It has become one of the most photographed works in the district.
