Biography

Cedric "Vise1" Douglas is a Jamaican-American visual artist, public artist, and designer born in 1977 in Boston. A Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate in Graphic Design from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt), he has developed for twenty-five years a practice rooted in the Roxbury neighborhood. The pseudonym VISE stands for "Visually Intercepting Society's Emotions."

His practice combines muralism, design, and social intervention. His "Street Memorials" project documents African Americans killed by police and questions racial injustice in the United States. He co-created The Up Truck, a mobile art lab that runs activities with underserved populations in Boston.

His monumental frescoes can be seen in Boston, Colombia, Tel Aviv, and Haiti. The artist has collaborated with Harvard University, the Boston Medical Center, the Boston Globe, Google, and Pepsi, as well as community organizations like Zumix and the Dudley Neighborhood Initiative.
