Biography
Sheldon Blake is a Jamaican community art specialist born in Southside, a working-class district in central Kingston. With more than twenty years of mural experience, he taught visual arts at St George's College and Haile Selassie High School before devoting himself fully to public fresco creation.
His works depict Jamaican cultural heritage - the evolution of popular music, ground provisions and foodstuffs, historic architecture - and speak directly to the residents of downtown Kingston, of which he is himself a part. He plays a central role in the urban revitalization project led by Kingston Creative, of which he has been a key artist since the initiative was founded.
Blake is also a trainer, regularly mentoring emerging artists such as Keni Hyatt. His work, commissioned by public institutions (Ministry of Tourism, Kingston Creative), has established him as a reference figure in Jamaican community muralism of the 2010s–2020s.
