Biography

Basik, real name Lucio Bolognesi, is an Italian street artist based in Rimini. He began graffiti at the age of twelve, in the early 1990s, under the tags "Lego" and then "Basik." By the end of the decade, the Italian magazine Aelle ranked him among the three most influential writers in the country.

Over the years, his practice has shifted from spray paint to mixed media, crossing his hip-hop roots with medieval painting, the Italian Renaissance, and Baroque art. His works, often centered on stylized hands and reinterpreted religious icons, sometimes incorporate gold leaf and altarpiece structures, extending the codes of European frescoes onto urban walls.

Now represented by Street Levels Gallery in Florence, the artist has exhibited in San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Berlin, and Milan, and produced large murals across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. His work questions the persistence of religious and symbolic imagery in contemporary culture.
