Biography
Knorke Leaf, real name Norka Paz Rodo, is a Bolivian street artist born in La Paz. Holder of a Master of Fine Arts from Universidad Mayor de San Andrés specializing in engraving, she turned to the city's walls early on and has emerged as one of the leading figures of Bolivian contemporary muralism.
Her work brings together two strong commitments: the defense of women's rights — especially of cholitas, the Aymara and Quechua women in traditional dress — and the protection of South American endangered species. Her pieces unfold a colorful iconography rooted in Andean textile patterns, female portraits seen from behind, and animals of the high plateau.
In 2019, the artist directed Bolivia's first macromural project in La Paz's Chualluma neighborhood, transforming the facades of 160 houses into an open-air gallery. The project, which has since become a tourist attraction, brought her international recognition and exhibitions in Argentina, Brazil, Spain, and the United States.
