Biography
Nandy Mondragón is a Colombian muralist born in 1996 in Cali, trained at the Instituto Popular de Cultura. She painted her first mural in 2015 in the working-class district of Siloé, in Cali, before she turned 20, and has since developed a full-time mural practice focused on the visibility of Afro-Colombian women.
Her work tackles racism and exclusion head-on through monumental portraits of black women with their free natural hair - a claim to existence in the public space of a country that renders its Afro-descendant majority invisible. She works with spray and roller, in a realist figuration inherited from her academic training.
She paints across the country (Bogotá, Popayán, Manizales, Ibagué, Santa Marta, Barranquilla, Pasto) and internationally (Peru, Argentina, Brazil). A member of the Mala Junta Klan collective, she co-signs with Rito Sin Sermones the monumental COP 16 mural (October 2024), ranked 14th best mural in the world on Street Art Cities.
