Biography

Eliana Zapata Arias, better known as Rito Sin Sermones, is a Colombian urban artist born in 1997 in Cali, in the Valle del Cauca department. Her artist name - 'ritual without sermons' - expresses the freedom of her creative ritual against the constraints of the religious dogma that marked her childhood in a practising Catholic family.

An illustrator, painter and muralist, she has developed since 2014 a visual grammar that mixes symbolic figuration, acid palette and animal iconography, painted at very large scale on apartment-block gable ends. She is a founding member of the female collective Mala Junta Klan, which uses murals in Cali as a space for expression, memory and social mobilisation.

She paints in Cali, Bogotá and several Colombian departments. Her monumental mural made in collaboration with Nandy Mondragón for COP 16 (October 2024) ranked 14th best mural in the world on Street Art Cities.
