Biography
Erik Verstrarte, better known as Erik Air, is a Spanish muralist born on 19 February 1990 in Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, who grew up in the working-class Finca España district of La Laguna. Entirely self-taught, he discovered graffiti at age 11 in a school magazine and signed his first piece in 2003 — one of the first major figures of the Canarian street scene to emerge purely from the street, without academic training.
From the 2010s onwards he developed a very large-scale photo-realism, painted with spray then roller, focused on child portraits, natural elements (wind, light, energy) and island culture. His acid palette and the treatment of gazes are his signature.
He paints in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Madrid and at international festivals; his clients include Pepsi, Ducati, Amazon and IPNA-CSIC. His Energía mural in Arinaga (Gran Canaria, 2024) ranked 11th best mural in the world on Street Art Cities.
