Biography

Paul Watty is a Dutch artist born in 1975 in Tilburg, of Moluccan descent. He took up graffiti as a teenager in the streets of Tilburg, spent six months in Indonesia with his grandparents and returned to sign his first piece Aku ('I' in Indonesian) on the former Van Gend & Loos industrial site.

He became a full-time muralist in 2024, after a parallel career as a designer. His visual grammar draws on photo-realism applied to animal and plant species - bees, frogs, birds, flowers - painted at very large scale on apartment-block gable ends, with particular care for the translucency of wings and the modelling of living matter.

His De Bij mural in the Kruidenbuurt district of Tilburg ranked 7th best mural in the world for 2024 on Street Art Cities, and The Frog (2025) is in the running for the same honour the following year. He also runs workshops in Dutch schools and museums.
