Biography
Nuno Miles is a Portuguese hyper-realist painter from Guarda, in the Beira Interior region. A doctor in Media Arts and a self-taught painter since childhood, he developed a contemporary portrait practice that crosses oil, ink, honey and water - used as metaphors for desire, tension and vulnerability.
Alongside his studio work on canvas, he occasionally intervenes on the street with monumental murals of photographic precision, which he sees as extensions of his pictorial research rather than street art in the classical sense. His recurring subjects: the human face, the animal in close-up, the liquid matter in suspension.
His Touro Raiano (The Border Bull) mural, painted in July 2024 on a wall in Alfaiates in the Sabugal area, was voted Best Mural of the World 2024 by the Street Art Cities platform. He is represented by Arca Gallery and shows regularly in Portugal, Spain and Italy.
