Biography
Igor Scalisi Palminteri is an Italian artist born in 1973 in Palermo, Sicily. A graduate of Palermo's Accademia di Belle Arti, he has developed since the 2000s a muralist practice rooted in the Sicilian painterly tradition — baroque sacred painting, popular ex-votos, Mediterranean religious iconography — which he transposes at large scale onto the façades of the city's working-class neighbourhoods.
His murals favour the monumental portrait, often dedicated to Sicilian sacred figures (Santa Rosalia, San Benedetto il Moro), secular Palermitan figures (Franco Scaldati, Totò) or social allegories of the South. He also paints series in the Borgo Vecchio, Ballarò, Sperone and Brancaccio districts, in dialogue with local communities.
His Rusulia mural, painted in 2024 in the Sperone neighbourhood, was named among the world's best street art works by the Street Art Cities platform. The artist regularly collaborates with the Archdiocese of Palermo and shows in Italy, Germany and Belgium.
