Biography
Cristóbal Espinosa, better known as Cristóbal Persona — a nod to the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa — is a Chilean artist born in 1990 in Santiago. He started painting on the street in 2018 as a volunteer for a social foundation in vulnerable Santiago neighbourhoods, and gradually shifted to a full-time muralist practice.
His style belongs to a hyper-realist tradition, drawing on American realism and Latin American social painting. He sources his subjects from Latin American literature — poetry, tales of folk wisdom, Andean folklore figures — and composes monumental portraits in warm, earthy palettes.
His Charanguista Andino mural, painted in 2024 on Avenida Porta do Sol in Fene, Galicia, during the Perla Mural Fest, was voted Best Mural of the World 2024 by the Street Art Cities platform. The artist has also painted in Lo Prado (Santiago), Valparaíso and at several European festivals.
