Biography
Tankpetrol is a Polish artist born in 1986 in Łódź and based in Manchester since 2009. A graphic-arts graduate, he began painting in the street in the mid-2000s and quickly imposed a recognisable signature: photorealistic female portraits blended with cartoon elements, saturated palettes and monumental compositions on apartment-block gable ends.
His hybrid style - between commercial illustration and muralist tradition - plays on layered planes, the inlay of secondary characters (birds, totemic animals, masks) and references to European and Japanese pop culture. The artist works essentially in aerosol, at very large scale, using cherry-pickers.
He has painted in Manchester (Northern Quarter), Łódź, Berlin (ArtPark Tegel 2019 with QueenKong), Wrocław, Helsingør, Mexico and at POW! WOW! Hawaii. He works regularly with Urban Nation, and shows with StolenSpace in London and Galerie Open Walls Berlin.
