Biography
Jesús Sotés Vega, better known as Suso33, is a Spanish artist born in 1973 in Madrid. He began writing graffiti in the early 1980s in the Vallecas and Carabanchel districts, making him one of the pioneers of Madrid graffiti, and from the 1990s he developed a radical visual grammar built on flat silhouettes - Presencia (presence) and Ausencia (absence) - which became his signature.
His vocabulary - black silhouettes of figures on white grounds, stylised birds, obliterations - opens a reflection on the mark, the passage and memory in the city. The artist works equally on the street and in galleries, in live performances and video installations.
He has painted in Madrid, Bilbao, Lima, Berlin, Amsterdam (Street Art Museum, 2015), Pradejón (2019) and at the Asalto festival in Zaragoza. He co-founded the first museum exhibition of graffiti in Spain - Madrid Abierto - and shows regularly with Iguapop in Barcelona, La Causa Galería and Centro Centro in Madrid.
