Sixe Paredes

Sixe Paredes

Biography

Sergio Hidalgo Muñoz, better known as Sixe Paredes (and Sixeart in his early years), is a Spanish artist born in Barcelona in 1975. He started writing graffiti at thirteen in the subway and wastelands of suburban Barcelona, and emerged in the late 1990s as one of the pioneering figures of Catalan graffiti.

From the 2000s onwards, he gradually moved away from lettering to develop an abstract, geometric language strongly informed by Peruvian pre-Columbian art - stars, birds, totems, masks - modern European painting and the chromatic practice of Andean ceramics. His saturated palettes and structured compositions on large gable walls have become his signature.

He has painted in Barcelona, Lima, Charleroi, Nasca, São Paulo (a MASP collaboration with Os Gêmeos), Bilbao and Bristol, and shows with Lazarides in London, Magda Danysz in Paris and Iguapop in Barcelona. His canvas and sculpture work extends the same geometric grammar in the studio.
