Biography

Fabrice Aignan, better known as Eltono, is a French-Spanish artist born in Paris in 1975 and based in Madrid for more than a decade before successive stays in Asia and Mexico. His name comes from the tuning fork — el tono — that he painted in Madrid in 1999 on electrical meters and urban boxes, as a geometric signature.

Since the early 2000s Eltono has developed an exclusively abstract language: straight lines, coloured geometric shapes, compositions that dialogue with the architecture of the support. His practice is marked by economy of means — no figuration, no readable message, only proportions and colours worked in harmony with the wall.

He has painted in more than fifty cities: Madrid, Paris, Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Lisbon, Warsaw, Bilbao, Rio de Janeiro, Cambodia. His installations in public space (wooden cubes, ephemeral sculptures, totems) extend his reflection on geometry and urban context.
