Biography
Mateusz Gapski, better known as Bezt, is a Polish artist born in 1985. A graduate of painting and graphic arts at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, he co-founded the Etam Cru duo with Sainer in 2008 and developed a parallel solo career from the mid-2010s.
His solo murals, painted with rollers and brushes, are marked by midnight-blue palettes, intimate compositions and chiaroscuro inherited from Flemish painting. The figures he depicts — young men, young women, parents — are often caught in moments of doubt, melancholy or restrained tenderness.
He has painted walls in Aalborg, Mannheim, Providence, Dunedin, Bielsko-Biała and many Polish cities. His Europe mural in Mannheim (2016) marks a political turn in his work, and Blue Monday in Bielsko-Biała (2017) confirms the maturity of his signature blue palette.
