Biography

Etam Cru is a Polish mural duo founded in 2008 by Mateusz Gapski (Bezt) and Przemysław Blejzyk (Sainer), both graduates of the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. The duo rose to prominence in the early 2010s with monumental murals that combine academic realism, palettes of deep blues and lavenders, and Slavic folk iconography.

The characters — old women, young girls, hybrid creatures — are painted at life size across entire buildings, in dreamlike, melancholic compositions that extend the Polish painterly tradition. Their Madame Chicken mural in Łódź (2012), commissioned by the Urban Forms project, has become one of the iconic images of Polish street art.

Etam Cru has worked in Łódź, Wrocław, Berlin, Vienna, Atlanta, Richmond, Heerlen and Aalborg. Sainer and Bezt also pursue distinct solo careers — Sainer favours more surreal compositions, Bezt intimate chiaroscuro scenes.
