Biography

Jacopo Ceccarelli, better known as 2501, is an Italian artist born in Milan in 1981. Trained in animation in São Paulo before returning to Italy in the mid-2000s, he developed a graffiti practice that broke away from classical lettering in favour of a minimalist vocabulary: long curved lines, undulating patterns, gradients stretched in aerosol and brush.

His visual grammar — parallel curves, endless knots, abstract movement — plays on the perception of time and gesture. The artist often documents his interventions on film, in a practice as much performance as mural, and shows regularly with Wunderkammern in Rome and Etra Fine Art in San Francisco.

2501 has worked on large façades in Milan, Detroit, Chicago, Brooklyn, Miami, Atlanta, São Paulo and Ulaanbaatar. His Endless Knot painted in Milan in 2020 honours the Tibetan lama Gangchen Tulku Rimpoche who died during the pandemic, and his Almost Full mural on The Buckingham in Chicago marked one of his first large-scale American projects.
