Biography
Jesús Cruz Artiles, known as Eme Freethinker, is a Dominican-born street artist living in Berlin since the 2010s. Self-described as an "artivist", he paints spray-painted portraits on the remnants of the Berlin Wall at Mauerpark, repainting them almost every Sunday. His best-known murals pay tribute to George Floyd ("I can't breathe", 2020), Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Angela Davis, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Prince, and address police brutality, the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. His signature look combines photorealistic faces with bold, cartoon-like lettering and symbols.
