Algirdas Gataveckas

Biography

Algirdas Gataveckas is a Lithuanian artist born in 1985 in Alytus, identical twin of Remigijus Gataveckas with whom he forms an inseparable creative duo. Raised at the Alytus state orphanage (1993-2004), he discovered breakdancing and street art at an early age before joining Alytus Art School and the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where he earned a Bachelor's (2004-2008) and a Master's (2008-2010) in monumental art (fresco-mosaic). Regarded as one of the finest academic draughtsmen in Lithuania, he produces hyperrealistic large-scale colored-pencil drawings as well as deeply autobiographical urban murals. His "Effects" project shown at ARTVILNIUS'12 won him the Lithuanian Young Artist award and the audience prize. His works are held in the MO Museum collection and in numerous private collections.
