Biography
Remigijus Gataveckas is a Lithuanian artist born in 1985 in Alytus, identical twin of Algirdas Gataveckas with whom he forms an inseparable creative duo. After a difficult childhood spent at the Alytus state orphanage (1993-2004), he studied at Alytus Art School and earned a Bachelor's (2004-2008) and a Master's (2008-2010) in monumental art (fresco-mosaic) at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Known for their hyperrealistic large-scale colored-pencil drawings and their socially engaged murals, the Gataveckas brothers tackle themes such as child abandonment, poverty and family memory. Their 2010 exhibition "Situacija" marked their debut; their works are now part of the collection of the MO Museum (Lithuanian Museum of Modern Art).
