Biography

Meg Saligman is an internationally recognized American muralist from Olean, New York, who graduated as valedictorian in painting from Washington University in St. Louis. Based in Philadelphia, she has led Meg Saligman Studio for more than twenty-five years and produced over forty permanent public artworks worldwide. Her practice blends classical figuration with abstract accents, paint, glass and light, and is rooted in community collaboration and site-specific design. She is best known for Common Threads (1998) at Broad and Spring Garden — one of the largest murals in the United States — along with Lava Kid (5 Below) in Philadelphia and the MLK mural We Will Not Be Satisfied Until in Chattanooga. Her work has been featured by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and recognized with awards including the NEA and the Moore College Visionary Woman Award.
