Biography

Yip Yew Chong is a Singaporean muralist born in 1969 on Sago Lane in Chinatown. After a twenty-five-year career in corporate finance, he began painting murals as a hobby in 2015 and turned full-time artist in 2018. A self-taught painter, he draws on childhood memories and the everyday life of old Singapore, which he renders in a photorealistic, deeply nostalgic style. He has produced more than fifty murals across Singapore - in Chinatown, Tiong Bahru, Kampong Glam and Everton Road - including a forty-metre piece on the wall of the Thian Hock Keng temple and a sixty-metre panorama of twenty-seven scenes from 1970s and 80s Singapore, collected in his 2023 book I Paint my Singapore.
