Biography
Born in Lisbon in 1974, Gonçalo MAR is a Portuguese muralist. With a background in fashion design and early experience at the MagicToons animation studio, he discovered graffiti in 1998. His visual universe blends street art codes with comics, animation and Japanese culture, featuring stylised, vividly coloured figures. His signature "botanical faces" series depicts portraits framed by lush vegetal motifs. His tag "MAR" means "sea" in Portuguese, echoing his bond with the ocean and surfing. His murals can be found in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra and abroad.
