Biography

André Mano, who works under the alias Mano JMK, is a Portuguese artist and architect based in Lisbon. Trained as an architect, he has been practicing graffiti and urban art for about a decade and recently returned to Portugal after roughly eight years in Luxembourg.

His practice merges architecture, hip-hop and concrete poetry. The artist inscribes fragments of song lyrics from his favorite musicians on building facades, describing his own approach as "concrete poetry". His compositions take advantage of existing windows and volumes, weaving the structure of the building itself into the drawing.

His most widely covered piece is the "Simone" mural, painted in May 2022 in Alvalade (Lisbon), a tribute to his grandmother, Portuguese singer Simone de Oliveira, whose portrait stretches across an entire building facade. Mano JMK regularly documents his interventions in Lisbon and beyond on his Instagram account @mano.jmk.
