Biography
Michał Węgrzyn, born in 1989 in Wałbrzych, is a painter, muralist and illustrator based in Wrocław. He trained at the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts in Professor Krzysztof Skarbek's studio, graduating in 2014 with a double degree in painting and painting design in architecture and urbanism. Under the pseudonym DEMENZ, he develops a visual language built on clean, dynamic geometric forms contrasted with complex structures, generating optical tension and vibration.
In 2013, he won first prize in an international competition with the mural project «Brama do Nadodrza» (Gateway to Nadodrze) in Wrocław — a 435-square-metre work that became one of the city's most recognisable street artworks. That same year he received the artistic scholarship from the Mayor of Wrocław. He has also collaborated with the Gdańsk School of Mural under Rafał Rosiński and Jacek Zdybel.
His practice spans canvas painting, illustration and monumental mural work. He has exhibited in galleries across Poland and painted internationally, including at the Techfest 2015 festival in Mumbai. He is represented by Galerie Xanadu in Wrocław.
