Biography

Victor Ash was born in Lisbon and raised in Paris, where he studied; he now lives and works in Copenhagen. He began in the early 1980s under the tags 'Saho' and then 'Ash2' as part of Bad Boys Crew in Paris, one of the founding collectives of European graffiti, before broadening his practice to stencil work, large-scale murals, drawing and studio painting.

Known for his black-and-white compositions and his monumental color murals, the artist has shown consistently in museums and galleries since the late 1980s. His most iconic piece remains the 'Astronaut / Cosmonaut' stencil painted in Berlin in 2007, in the Kreuzberg district, long considered the largest stencil mural in the world at 22 × 14 meters.

For the past ten years he has partnered regularly with the NGO Street Art for Mankind on environmental and social awareness projects — in Manhattan for the ILO centennial, in Oakland for the World Food Programme, in Paris for UNESCO and in Houston. In June 2024 he unveiled North America's largest outdoor mural on the Seattle waterfront for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
