Biography
Twenty Three is a Cypriot visual artist active on the streets since 2012, whose identity remains undisclosed. Based in the old city of Nicosia, he has developed a visual language rooted in stencil and wheat-paste techniques, combined with participatory projects, interactive installations and experiments with cyanotype printing.
His work centres on the question of transformative identities at local and global levels, and the constant negotiation between tradition and modernity. Influenced by Social Realism and Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, he approaches street art as political communication — a means of expressing values and disrupting dominant narratives rather than producing decorative aesthetics.
His large-scale murals in Nicosia typically emerge from a fieldwork process: interviews with residents, collection of testimonies, and the construction of composite figures that embody real social dynamics. His mural on Trikoupi Street (2025), funded by ETAP Nicosia, depicts a procession of eight characters — baker, barber, migrant, fruit vendor — bound together by the threads of Lefkara lace, a metaphor for the neighbourhood's social fabric.
