Biography
Stern (Dimitar Mehandzhiiski) is the most widely recognised graffiti artist in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Trained at the National School of Stage and Film Design, he began painting in the Kapana district in 2013, just as this historic part of the city centre was beginning its transformation into a creative district. His murals, populated by fantastical characters — hybrid creatures, puppet-men and imaginary animals — combine a precise narrative line with a vivid colour palette.
His most famous work in Plovdiv is the 'House with the Crocodile', a composition on the corner of Altseko and Hristo Dyukmedzhiev streets in the heart of Kapana, which quickly became one of the most photographed spots in the city and appeared on the cover of a Bulgarian literary magazine. His works also decorate the walls of the National School of Stage and Film Design, various bars and numerous building facades throughout the district.
Active in Plovdiv for more than a decade, Stern contributes actively to local cultural life through public commission projects and urban art festivals across Bulgaria.
