Morran Ben Lahcen

Morran Ben Lahcen

Biography

Morran Ben Lahcen was born in 1982 in Tahanouat, a rural village near Marrakech. A self-taught artist, he found in graffiti culture his first mode of expression, honing his early work on the walls of Casablanca and Salé, where he is based today. A pioneer of Moroccan street art, he is among the first generation of artists to shape a mural scene in Morocco in the early 2000s.

His practice gradually evolved from graffiti to canvas painting, sculpture, and installation. His work explores the human condition, memory, time, and communication through a reflection on space-time, whose visual signature is expressed in the intersection of vertical and horizontal lines. He works across diverse materials — canvas, wool, horn, and synthetic glass — seeking to bring invisible energies into the visible world. His first gallery exhibition took place at the David Bloch Gallery in Marrakech in 2014, following a three-month residency.

Recognized as a leading figure in Moroccan street art, Ben Lahcen has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Morocco and abroad. His mural works can be seen in Casablanca, Azemmour, and Marrakech, notably on the legal graffiti wall on Rue Oum Errabia in Guéliz. He continues to exhibit in galleries while maintaining a presence in public space.
