Biography

Darbotz is an Indonesian graffiti artist born in 1981 in Jakarta, a pioneering figure in Indonesian urban art. He began on the capital's streets in the mid-1990s, tagging walls and buses with his high school crew. Between 2000 and 2004, he developed his distinctive visual language centered on a recurring character: Cumi Kong, a spherical squid monster with jagged tentacle-teeth, the artist's alter ego and a mirror of Jakarta's chaos.

His work unfolds in monochrome, using the contrast of black and white punctuated by purple accents to convey the energy of a constantly changing city. Co-founder of Tembokbomber.com, one of Indonesia's largest street art communities, he helped structure the local scene while building an international career. His solo exhibitions include Monster Inside Us at MIFA in Australia (2013) and Monster in Disguise #2 in Jakarta (2016).

Beyond walls, Darbotz has collaborated with brands including Nike and Google Chrome, and his works have been shown at Artstage Singapore and Art Moments Jakarta. His most iconic work remains the monumental mural covering all four facades of ARTOTEL Thamrin in Jakarta, which the artist considers his most significant piece.
