Biography
Ricardo González, who signs his work IT'S A LIVING, is a Mexican designer and artist born in Durango and based in Brooklyn. After earning a BA in graphic design from Mohawk College in 2010, he specialized in typeface design at Cooper Union in 2014, fueling a practice entirely built around the letter and its evocative power.
His signature is a continuous-line 'monoline' script that unfolds into messages at once poetic, ironic or contemplative, always open to interpretation. The artist says that 'a word is an image' and seeks to open a dialogue between viewer and work through the way the verb occupies urban space.
His work spans every scale, from stickers plastered in the New York subway to monumental murals painted in Monterrey, Oakland and Jersey City, by way of commercial collaborations with Apple, Nike, Google and Coca-Cola. In 2018 he painted 'Destination Unknown', his first large Mexican mural, on a wall in the San Pedro district of Monterrey.
